"Conservationist" Magazine Quadricentennial Issue Popular

The special Quadricentennial commemorative issue of Conservationist magazine has hit the streets and is proving very popular. Since the day it began to be mailed out, magazine staff have been fielding requests for additional copies of the special issue, which includes articles on Henry Hudson, Samuel Champlain, and Robert Fulton.

Colorful and Comprehensive

A small Adirondack lake with forest and a mountain behind it
Lake Tear of the Clouds, the headwaters of the Hudson River, with Mt. Marcy, the state's highest peak in the distance.

The issue contains an article on the history of Manhattan, with an exquisite graphic display of how Manhattan Island looks now compared to how it appeared to Henry Hudson when he arrived in September 1609. Another article features artwork by renowned artist Len Tantillo showing changes in the Hudson Valley over time. And outdoor writer Sandra Weber takes readers to a tiny pond on the shoulder of an Adirondack mountain in search of the source of the mighty Hudson, which extends for some 300 miles downstream. Another article showcases lighthouses found along New York's portion of Lake Champlain's shores. You can read all this and more in the New York State Conservationist magazine.
