DEC Seeks Public Comment on Lake Ontario Fishery

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold a series of public meetings in March to obtain comments on the Lake Ontario fishery as new "fish community objectives" are being developed. These are broad-based goals that guide DEC and the Province of Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) in managing Lake Ontario fisheries.

DEC biologists and others will present the current status of the Lake Ontario fishery.

DEC biologists and staff from cooperating agencies and universities will present information describing the current status of the Lake Ontario fishery, and the public will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss information presented. Following the question-and-answer session, participants may provide written comments to assist DEC and the OMNR with planning efforts.

Those with an interest in the Lake Ontario ecosystem are encouraged to participate in this process. Anyone who is unable to attend a public meeting but wishes to submit comments should send them to the NYSDEC Cape Vincent Fisheries Station, P.O. Box 292, Cape Vincent, New York 13618 or via e-mail to fwfish6@gw.dec.state.ny.us
