"DEC Outdoor Discovery" New Electronic Newsletter

"We celebrate Earth Day by welcoming you to our new family e-newsletter," said New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis as he announced a new electronic newsletter, DEC Outdoor Discovery. This free newsletter encourages New Yorkers to connect with nature by exploring the outdoors and learning about the environment. Every other week, a new issue will introduce subscribers to a seasonally oriented environmental or nature topic, suggest related activities and list family-friendly events at DEC's environmental education centers.

Backyard birds will be the focus of
the first issue

The first issue highlights backyard birds and offers tips on feeding birds, keeping a birding journal and creating a bird bath. Upcoming issues will include events and activities focusing on salamanders, frogs and young wildlife.

"We hope you will agree that connecting to nature can bring new energy to our busy lives. Sharing outdoor experiences with friends and family will also help inspire communities to protect green and open spaces. Join us in discovering New York's great outdoors," Commissioner Grannis said.

DEC Outdoor Discovery will be e-mailed to subscribers on alternate Wednesdays and will be posted on DEC's website as well. Please visit DEC's website to view the newsletter or to subscribe to it.
