Eighth Annual Hudson River Valley Ramble
The Eighth Annual Hudson River Valley Ramble--a celebration of the Hudson River Valley and the Hudson River Estuary--is scheduled for September 15-16, 23 and 29-30, 2007. From the Capital Region to New York City, more than 160 guided walks, hikes, paddles, river and estuary explorations, heritage site tours and cultural events will be offered, at least 50 of which are new this year. The Ramble is sponsored by the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and the Hudson River Valley Greenway in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) Hudson River Estuary Program.

Hikers clamber up a rocky trail on a previous Ramble
DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis said, "This event is an excellent opportunity for everyone to enjoy the outdoors and all that the Hudson River and its surroundings have to offer. The Ramble is a perfect time for fishing, boating or sightseeing along one of New York State's most valuable resources."
Hudson River Estuary Theme
In celebration of National Estuaries Day, the Hudson River Valley Ramble highlights the wetlands, wildlife and water resources that make the Hudson a world-famous estuary. DEC, which administers the Hudson River Estuary Program, will be presenting a series of land and water explorations that will open your eyes to the wonders of "the river that flows both ways."
Visitors will be able to experience the river close up through a variety of boating and paddling activities. Landlubbers will learn about life along the shore, in the marshes and further inland by taking advantage of numerous exploratory walks and hikes. And funlovers will enjoy the many fairs and festivals, from a chili cookoff and a garlic festival to art venues, theater, a film festival and lighthouse tours.

Kayaking is one of the water activities scheduled
Many events are free, family friendly and wheelchair accessible. Registration is required in some cases. For more information and to request a Ramble booklet, please call 800-453-6665, 845-334-9574 or 518-473-3835.
