The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Friends of the Great Swamp (FROGS) celebrated the success of the past 25 years of the Bottle Bill by conducting a cleanup of the Great Swamp in Patterson, New York, Putnam County. Willie Janeway, Director of DEC Region 3, was joined by Jim Utter, President of FROGS, and other government and environmental and conservation individuals and groups from the area to speak about the Bottle Bill's impact after more than two decades and the additional environmental benefits of the Bigger Better Bottle Bill. Volunteers collected small trash, bottles and debris along portions of Route 22 and other local roadways surrounding the Great Swamp and separated returnable recyclables from trash and non-returnable items.
