Hudson River Estuary Program Grants Available
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is now accepting applications for state assistance under the Hudson River Estuary Grant Program.
According to DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis, "These grants are being made available to help promote and further develop the goals of revitalization and increased access to the Hudson River for all residents and visitors to enjoy. Partnerships with local municipalities and not-for-profit corporations are essential in accomplishing the goals of restoring the Hudson River to its fullest potential."

Canoeing down the Hudson River is a popular activity
Increasing public access to the Hudson River is one of the goals of the Estuary Action Agenda Now in its ninth year, the Estuary Grant Program implements priorities outlined in DEC's Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda 2005-2009. This is the blueprint for cleaning and protecting the Hudson River and its watershed, while increasing public access, conserving vital natural resources, improving educational programs and protecting open space along the entire estuary. All 2007 grants are focused on helping to prepare for the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial celebration in 2009 with a program of accomplishments that further the Estuary Action Agenda's goals of river restoration.
The grants are for projects located within the geographic boundaries of the Hudson River Estuary. Grants will be awarded for a minimum amount of $10,000 to a maximum amount of $100,000, with a total of $1.5 million to be distributed among the following eligible funding categories:

Open Space Planning, Inventory and Acquisition

Community-based Habitat Conservation or Stewardship

Watershed Planning and Implementation
- Hudson River Access: Boating, Fishing, Swimming, Hunting, Hiking or River-watching
