Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Compost and Buy Recycled for the Holidays!
Indulgence is part of the fun of the holidays-from gift wrap to Christmas trees to batteries and, of course, all the food. Even though we might not want to think about it, the wonderful treats of the holidays can substantially increase the amount of solid waste we generate. Follow these tips to reduce, reuse, compost and recycle so that you can enjoy the holidays guilt free.
- Purchase decorations, gifts and foods that are minimally packaged.
- Compost food scraps from holiday parties and meals.
- Check with local officials about recycling your Christmas tree.
- Buy rechargeable batteries.
- Be creative with your wrapping-use festive holiday fabric which can be washed and reused.
- Give gifts made of recycled material.
