Governor Announces More than $400,000 in Brownfields Cleanup Funds
Governor George E. Pataki has announced a total of $468,750 in grants for projects to investigate environmental contamination on properties in seven communities. "Since its creation, our brownfields program has enabled communities to restore and transform abandoned or underused properties into economically and culturally viable properties," Governor Pataki said. "These grants will be instrumental in helping [recipient] communities create new opportunities for businesses and residents, while helping to protect the public health of communities throughout the state."
The project grants range from $22,500 to investigate a 13.4-acre site along the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie to a $105,000 grant for a site that once held a small boat manufacturer in the Village of Penn Yann in Yates County. The brownfields funds are provided by the 1996 Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act.
