Environmental Compliance and Pollution Prevention at Hospitals
DEC, in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Healthcare Association of New York State, recently hosted the Environmental Compliance and Pollution Prevention Conference for Hospitals in Albany.
Over 40 hospital representatives from across the state attended the conference to learn how to best prepare their healthcare facilities for upcoming environmental regulations compliance inspections.
Pollution Prevention Pays
Besides advising participants on the environmental regulations governing their industry, the conference also provided pollution prevention tips which can minimize the impact of regulation on their industry, help reduce costs and save valuable raw materials.
The conference supplied information on ways to eliminate mercury from healthcare facilities, one of the most pressing environmental concerns at hospitals. Other topics included: regulated medical waste, bioterrorism, DEC's pollution prevention programs, environmental management systems, the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts and Petroleum Bulk Storage.
