Celebrate Fishing During Free Fishing Days and Family Fishing Clinics
"June is a great time to celebrate the excellent fishing New York State waters offer," DEC Commissioner Erin M. Crotty said recently while announcing DEC's upcoming Family Fishing Clinics and Free Fishing Days.
The tremendous wealth of water resources throughout the state provides habitat for more than 45 species of game and panfish, including popular species like bass, walleye, pike, trout and salmon. The only equipment required to enjoy one of our nation's favorite pastimes is fishing gear and worms or other bait.
Plan a Family Fishing Outing
To help make sure everyone has the opportunity to fish, DEC sponsors a number of clinics throughout the summer. Participants are supplied with equipment and can learn the basics about angling and angling ethics. In honor of National Boating and Fishing Week (June 1 to 8, 2003), DEC staff will be hosting or participating in eight Family Fishing Clinics throughout the state. As part of the DEC's Free Fishing Days Program, no freshwater fishing license will be required for these events. Additional Family Fishing events are planned for the state's Free Fishing Weekend, June 28 to 29.
To find out more about a Family Fishing Clinic near you, contact one of DEC's Regional Fisheries offices or check out the schedule of DEC's Free Sport Fishing Clinics for April to October 2003. Since some of the events require pre-registration, please call for specific details.
