Applications for Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards Due in May
Businesses and organizations wishing to compete for a 2003 Governor's Waste Reduction and Recycling Award have until May 14 to apply to DEC. The awards are given annually to those who have made outstanding efforts in source reduction, reuse of materials and recycling. Winners of the 2003 awards will be announced this fall.
"Governor Pataki's unprecedented commitment to environmental protection has bolstered efforts by public and private organizations to reduce the amount of waste generated and adopt reuse and recycling programs that help to preserve our air, land and water," DEC Commissioner Erin M. Crotty said. "The Governor's Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards recognize these organizations for implementing innovative waste reduction programs that serve as models of outstanding environmental stewardship."
Award Categories and Judging
Awards are presented in two categories: Achievement of Excellence, and Innovation. DEC staff and industry experts judge applications. The judging criteria include a project's accomplishments along with the applicant's environmental record, the economic benefits of its overall programs, the extent of employee participation and the community and environmental benefits of the project.
Additional information about the awards program and application instructions are available on DEC's website.
