Erie Canal Greenway Grant Program Announced

Governor Pataki and the New York State Canal Corporation recently announced the Erie Canal Greenway Grant Program. A total of $6 million in competitive grants is available for municipalities and not-for-profit organizations along the New York State Canal System and the proposed Erie Canal Greenway. The grants will support efforts to preserve and rehabilitate canal infrastructure, enhance recreational opportunities and promote tourism, historic interpretation and community revitalization throughout the canal corridor.

Four Grant Categories

The grant program includes four general categories: Erie Canal Greenway Development and Tourism Promotion; Erie Canal Greenway Water Trail; Canalway Land Trail; and Canal Community Infrastructure Projects.

Applications are available at the "2006 Erie Canal Greenway Grant Program Applications" link in "Related Links" below. If you wish to apply for a grant, please review the program guidelines and criteria carefully and submit six (6) copies of the application and attachments postmarked or hand-delivered no later than August 18, 2006. The completed application packet should be delivered to:
