Showcases Long-term Cooperation
"The opening of this new pier showcases the long-term cooperative efforts that legislative leaders, state and local government officials, and private enterprises have made over the years to improve fishing opportunities in Great South Bay," Director Scully said. "The opening of this new pier makes an already popular South Shore fishing site even better at a time when anglers can enjoy some of Long Island's great fall fishing opportunities."
DEC designed and built the pier as well as contributing more than $248,000 to the cost. The Town of Babylon will maintain it. The State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation granted permission to use state lands for the construction of the pier, which began in 2005 and ended in April 2006.
