Stony Kill Farm EEC Hosts Inclusive Outdoor Recreation Day

Visitors and DEC staff celebrate the reopening of the Woodland Trail, which has been redesigned to accommodate those with impaired mobility
Recognizing that everyone should be able to enjoy a full and rewarding outdoor experience, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center hosted an "Inclusive Outdoor Recreation Day" in late October.
This event was one of DEC's programs in recognition of Disabilities Awareness Month and included environmental exhibits and outdoor demonstrations. Approximately 75 people attended on a beautiful autumn day that provided the perfect backdrop for opening the redesigned and now wheelchair-accessible Woodland Trail.
Rewarding Response
Several visitors from the Dutchess ARC and Castle Point Veterans Hospital joined Assemblyman Joel Miller, Stony Kill Director Reba Laks and other DEC staff for the trail's ribbon-cutting ceremony. Many of the visitors have impaired mobility, and it was rewarding to hear them say that they would return to the center to use the Woodland Trail and to participate in programs. Special thanks to Region 3 Operations for their hard work in constructing the ADA-compliant trail.
