More Than $58.7 Million in EPF Grants Awarded for Projects Throughout State

Governor George E. Pataki announced $58,791,248 in Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) grants for communities and organizations across New York State. These grants will be used to assist with projects to revitalize waterfronts, preserve historic properties, acquire parkland and protect farmland.

"During the past 12 years, we have partnered with local communities on a variety of important environmental projects and have seen how the EPF can improve the quality of life for people across the Empire State," Governor Pataki said. "I am pleased to once again provide critical funding to build on what we have accomplished and continue to enhance communities across the state." This year's budget includes $225 million for the EPF, a record level of funding. Under Governor Pataki's leadership, the EPF has grown 800 percent, from $25 million in 1994 to its current level.

State Parks has invested more than $91.4 million to support 769 municipal open space, recreation and historic preservation projects; more than $97 million for 875 local waterfront revitalization projects, and more than $116.6 million for farmland protection projects that have helped to protect approximately 50,430 acres on 241 farms in 26 counties.
