"New York's competitive retail energy market now offers consumers the opportunity to obtain some or all of their energy from renewable sources. We're proud that these initiatives, combined with new programs designed to educate New Yorkers about the many benefits of purchasing green power, are helping us achieve a more secure energy future, create new jobs and economic opportunity and protect our environment,"said Governor Pataki.
The Green Power Marketing Conference, organized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS), is the premier venue for green power industry experts to gather to discuss recent developments in the green power market. Conference attendees included project developers, power marketers, electric utilities, equipment manufacturers, government agencies, energy consultants, and nonprofit groups from throughout the United States.
Green Power encompasses wind, hydro, solar, ocean or tidal, fuel cells, biogas, biomass, and other sources. This year's conference provided an overview of renewable energy markets, highlighted new trends and initiatives in renewable energy certificates, and explored innovative approaches to financing renewable energy projects with green power premiums.

Seminars and programs included: defining renewable energy attributes and values; using green premiums to finance renewable energy projects; proven strategies for marketing green power to customers; innovative utility partnerships to improve market success, and state incentives for green power market development. Expert panels also offered marketing tips and discussed state policy opportunities, while a special webcast about purchasing green power was available to colleges and universities nationwide.
Another highlight of the conference was the Fourth Annual Green Power Leadership Awards and Banquet. The awards honored leading green power purchasers, suppliers and marketers nationwide. A pre-conference tour of the Fenner Windpower Project in Madison County was offered to conference attendees and was organized by Community Energy, Inc. and ENEL North America.
