DEC's Summer Camps in Full Swing

Kids at DEC's Environmental
Education Camps enjoy new
adventures each day-like
sleeping in a tent, instead of
the camp cabins, for a night
DEC operates four first-rate Environmental Education Camps throughout the state. During one-week stays in the summer, boys and girls learn about the ecological consequences of their own environmental decisions and the importance of environmental stewardship.
Camp programs are offered at the following locations:
Pack Forest: Camp for 15 - 17 year olds in the southern Adirondacks
Camp Colby: Camp for 12 - 14 year olds in the northern Adirondacks
Camp DeBruce: Camp for 12 - 14 year olds in the Catskills
Camp Rushford: Camp for 12 - 14 year olds in the Genesee Valley
Camp is for Everyone

The diversity of campers makes the
experience much more enriching
DEC makes a concerted effort to include economically disadvantaged and minority campers into the Environmental Education Program. Recently, both camps DeBruce and Pack Forest received campers from the City of Albany Boys and Girls Clubs. Over the past few years DEC and Boys and Girls Clubs across the state have been working cooperatively to bring kids from urban areas to the summer camp program.
This year DEC entered into a partnership with the City of New York/Parks and Recreation Urban Park Rangers. Ranger Anthony Archino dropped off five 12 to 14 year-olds at Camp DeBruce in the Catskills and then accompanied two 15 to 17 year-olds to Pack Forest in the Adirondacks for a week-long stay. In addition, Ranger Archino assisted DEC staff with lessons and activities during the week, a time that everyone enjoyed. The seven campers that Ranger Archino transported belong to the "Urban Ranger Corp," an after-school and service program for young people in New York City.
