NYSDEC Corrective Action Program Receives National Award
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) recently honored the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) with its Environmental Leadership Award. This award recognizes NYSDEC's consistent leadership in the Corrective Action Program, especially its involvement and success in protecting human health and the environment.
In addition to meeting annual goals, NYSDEC set the standard for Environmental Indicator (EI) development when USEPA circulated NYSDEC's initial EI determinations nationwide to provide positive examples for the rest of the country. NYSDEC has been a national leader in the EI program by participating in the Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials, by identifying emerging issues (e.g., assessing indoor air on-site and off-site), and most important, by providing innovative solutions to difficult indoor air issues and problems in other states.
