Adirondack and Catskill Park Improvements Funded
Governor George E. Pataki has announced more than $1.5 million in Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) grants for five projects-funding that will improve recreation and visitor facilities in the Adirondack and Catskill parks. The Governor was joined by state and local officials in making the announcement at the Crown Point Pier along Lake Champlain.
Pier and Lighthouse Get Lion's Share

The Champlain Memorial Lighthouse
was built in 1858
Included is $732,000 to renovate the covered pier and rehabilitate the Champlain Memorial Lighthouse at Crown Point Campground in the Town of Crown Point, Essex County. The pier was built in 1920 to provide public access to Crown Point during an era when tourists regularly traveled Lake Champlain in large steamboats.
The funds will be used to match federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) monies to restore the pier for boater and angler access, including people with disabilities. The lighthouse will be rehabilitated, and security will be provided for the valuable sculptures attached to it.
