DEC Announces Public Meeting on Brownfield Cleanup Program

Join us to learn about DEC's new
Brownfield Cleanup Program
A public information meeting about the new State Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) is scheduled for June 8, 2004 from 12:30 to 4:30 pm at the Graduate Center, CUNY, Recital Hall, 365 Fifth Avenue, New York City.
The meeting will be held jointly by DEC, the NYS Department of Health (DOH) and the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance (TAX). At the meeting, DEC will present information about the BCP, its requirements and eligibility, and how to complete BCP applications to investigate and clean up brownfield sites. TAX will describe the tax credits created by the new law, which are available to parties cleaning up sites under the BCP. DOH staff will provide an overview of the development of a process to derive soil cleanup objectives regarding remediation of brownfield sites under the BCP.
In addition, DOH staff will conduct detailed discussions between 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM to obtain input regarding the formulation of soil cleanup objectives for the BCP.
The BCP was created by the Superfund Brownfield Law signed by Governor George E. Pataki in 2003, and is modeled after DEC's administrative Voluntary Cleanup Program. The goal of the BCP is to enhance private sector cleanups of contaminated properties known as brownfields and to reduce development pressure on greenfields.
