For the 2011 calendar year, total reported gas production was 31.124 billion cubic feet (bcf), a 13% decrease from 2010's posted production of 35.802 (bcf). As in recent years, the 2011 production was primarily driven by wells in the Trenton-Black River formation. Subsequent to this, the Medina, Herkimer, and Queenston formations lead in production.
Oil production in New York increased 1% from the previous year for a total of 391,176 barrels reported by purchasers. 786 Well owners also reported a total of 13,846 oil and gas wells. In response to the Department's e-commerce initiatives, owners electronically reported 50% of wells and 75% of gas production.
