2012 Oil & Gas Production Data
The data file for information pertaining to the 2012 Annual Well Reports (zipped file) (314 KB) was released on July 1, 2013, following the legislatively mandated six month period of confidentiality. The Division offers production data in a number of methods including zipped files, searchable oil and gas online database, and older summary production files. For the 2012 calendar year, 775 well owners reported a total of 13,121 oil and gas wells. Oil production in New York increased 5.4% from the previous year for a total of 394,507 barrels reported by purchasers. Total reported gas production was 26.424 billion cubic feet (bcf), a 15% decrease from 2011's posted production of 31.1 bcf. While the 2012 production was primarily driven by wells in the Trenton-Black River formation (12.7 bcf), 2012 marks the first year since 2000 that the Trenton-Black River's share of total New York State gas production fell below 50%. Significant 2012 production was also reported for the Medina (9.0 bcf), Herkimer (1.8 bcf), and Queenston (1.7 bcf) formations.
