2015 Oil & Gas Production Data

The data file for information pertaining to the 2015 Annual Well Reports (zipped file) (425 KB) was released on July 5, 2016, following the legislatively mandated six month period of confidentiality. The Division offers production data in a number of methods including zipped files, searchable oil and gas online database, and older summary production files. Over 28 years of Annual Well Status and Production Data is available for free download.

For the 2015 calendar year, 786 well owners reported a total of 12,880 oil and gas wells. Oil production in New York decreased 21% from the previous year for a total of 283,089 barrels reported by purchasers. Total reported gas production was 17.8 billion cubic feet (bcf), a 12.7% decrease from 2014. Gas production was primarily driven by wells in the Trenton-Black River formation (7.5 bcf). Significant 2015 production was also reported for the Medina (6.7 bcf), Herkimer (1.1 bcf), and Queenston (1.3 bcf) formations.
