Project Location: Towns of Brookhaven and Riverhead. In general the area is bounded by the William Floyd Parkway on the west, State Route 25A and Sound Avenue on the north and the Long Island Expressway and County Road 111 on the south.

Project Description: The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation proposes to implement a prescribed fire management plan on the lands owned by the Department of Environmental Conservation, identified in the Peconic Headwaters NRMA listed as Otis Pike Preserve. The project entails the use of prescribed fire to provide for ecological restoration in grassland communities. The proposed activities are being undertaken on approximately 127 acres of Department of Environmental Conservation managed lands within the Central Pine Barrens of Long Island. Treatments will be conducted in phases in units smaller than the entire site based on prescriptions of individual stands and vegetation community types within the project area of the preserve. Each treatment unit will have a prescription plan written which meets the requirements of the negative declaration and which is based on prescribed fire elements contained in the Unit Management Plan for the Peconic Headwaters Natural Resources Management Area. The Prescribed Fire Plan is made a part of this Negative Declaration.

Project Location: Town of Brookhaven-the area is bounded by the County Road 111 on the West and County Road 51 on the East.

Project Description: The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation proposes to implement a prescribed fire management plan on the lands owned by the Department of Environmental Conservation, identified in the Peconic Headwaters NRMA listed as Eastport Conservation Area. The project entails two major goals: the use of prescribed fire to provide for ecological restoration and reduce the likelihood and severity of wildfires. Proposed activities are being undertaken on approximately 126 acres of Department of Environmental Conservation managed lands within the Central Pine Barrens of Long Island. Treatments will be conducted in phases in units smaller than the entire site based on prescriptions of individual stands and vegetation community types within the project area of the preserve. The main treatment units are the two grassland/ meadow fields on the property. Each treatment unit will have a prescription plan written which meets the requirements of the negative declaration and which is based on prescribed fire elements contained in the Unit Management Plan for the Peconic Headwaters Natural Resources Management Area. The Prescribed Fire Plan is made a part of this Negative Declaration.


Positive Declaration And Public Scoping

Nassau County - The Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Muttontown, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Special Use Permit Application of The Jewish Congregation of Brookville may have a significant adverse environmental impact and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement must be prepared. A public scoping session will be held on April 26, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall, 1763 Route 106, Muttontown, New York. The project involves a special use permit application of The Jewish Congregation of Brookville for the construction and use of a 13,000-square-foot Synagogue with appurtenant accessory parking facilities on an approximately 6.1-acre property located on the east side of NYS Route 106 in the Incorporated Village of Muttontown, Nassau County, New York. The project is located on the east side of NYS Route 106 in the Incorporated Village of Muttontown, Nassau County, New York, Section 15 Block A Lots 2429 and 2430.
