Article 27 Title 3 Solid Waste Transporter |
|
| Project is Located: | Oneida County | |
| Project Description: | ||
|
The Department has received
an application from Faxton- St. Lukes Healthcare to operate
a Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) treatment facility. The existing treatment system, is
comprised of 2 autoclaves (steam sterilization) treating approximately 4.8 tons per day of
RMW and is located at the Energy Center St. Lukes Campus. It currently operates under a
written authorization from the New York State Department of Health. Once treated, the
RMW (and destroyed sharps) may be disposed as solid waste at a landfill authorized to
accept treated medical waste. The facility operator proposes to offer this treatment service
to other hospitals, medical centers, and private RMW generators throughout New York
State. The proposed quantity to be received and processed would be 3,000 tons per year.
The Department of Environmental
Conservation has determined that the Faxton-St. Lukes
Energy Center requires a 6 NYCRR Part 360 permit for commercial treatment of
regulated medical waste that is generated off-site and transported to the facility by
commercial 6 NYCRR 364 transporters.
