It currently operates under a written authorization from the New York State Department of Health. Once treated, the RMW (and destroyed sharps) may be disposed as solid waste at a landfill authorized to accept treated medical waste. The facility operator proposes to offer this treatment service to other hospitals, medical centers, and private RMW generators throughout New York State.
