ENB Region 9 Completed Applications 03/21/2007

The applicant proposes safety improvements at the existing Chautauqua County Airport to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards. The proposed project will extend safety areas from approximately 400 feet in length to approximately 1,000 feet in length, and 500 feet in width which will impact a total of 1.98 acres of federally regulated wetland.  To mitigate for the permanent loss of 1.98 acres of waters of the United States, the applicant proposes to construct 4.83 acres of wetland and enhance 1.77 acres of existing wetland.  The mitigation site is located at the New York State Conewango Swamp Wildlife Management Area, west side of Swamp Road in the Town of Conewango, Cattaraugus County.  A Freshwater Wetland Permit is required for the mitigation site disturbances to the regulated 100-foot wide adjacent areas of State regulated Freshwater Wetlands Nos. RA-9 and RA-4, (DEC Application ID: 9-0428-00058/00001).  The Chautauqua County Airport is located at the facility address above, which is approximately 2.5 miles north of the City of Jamestown.
