|
Applicant proposes to rehabilitate
the existing Mill Pond Park. The work includes the
dredging of approximately 7700 cubic yards of sediment from Mill Pond with off site
upland disposal, the modification of the existing outlet structure to increase the tidal
exchange with Manhasset Bay, and the regrading of the pond bottom to establish the
correct elevation and substrate for the planting of tidal wetlands vegetation along the
sides of the pond. The project also includes the construction of forebay areas where two
stormwater drainage pipes enter the pond, and the removal and replacement of the
following features: existing stone wall around the perimeter of the pond, various concrete
benches, walkways and parking spaces. Physical removal of Phragmites is proposed as
necessary for the in-pond wetland creation area. The site is located on the east side of
Shore Road between Harbor Road and Mill Pond Road in Port Washington.
