The applicant requests a renewal and modification of an existing permit for an existing trap rock mine with a current "life of mine" affected area of 227 +/- acres on a total site of 444 +/- acres. The modification would be a lateral expansion of 6.2 acres. Material processing (crushing) already occurs. The final reclamation objective is as a lake with surrounding vegetated benches. AStormwater Management Plan has also been prepared. The location is on either side of Route 9W north of the intersection of Old Route 304 in the towns of Clarkstown and Haverstraw.

        The Department has prepared a Draft SPDES Permit (NY-0021521) and has made a tentative determination to approve an application by the Town of Shawangunk to upgrade the treatment process and expand the design flow of the wastewater treatment plant serving the Wallkill Sewer District.  The proposal would expand the plant from the current design flow of 635,000 gallons per day to a proposed design flow of 835,000 gallons per day.  As part of the upgrade and expansion, the Town proposes to construct a new secondary clarifier, a return activated sludge (RAS) pump station, a new aerated sludge holding tank, a new sludge dewatering system and a new mechanical bar screen, all within the foot-print of the existing wastewater treatment plant.  The plant would continue to discharge treated effluent to the Wallkill River (Class B).  

        The wastewater treatment plant for the Wallkill Sewer District is located adjacent to the Wallkill River on Huffman Road, approximately 2 miles north of the hamlet of Wallkill, in the Town of Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York.
