Project Description:
Construction and operation of a 40 ton per day regulated medical waste (RMW) transfer station at 1281 Viele Avenue, bounded by Viele Avenue, Coster and Faile Streets. The project proposes the relocation of an existing RMW transfer station from 3446 Rombouts Avenue, Bronx, the construction of an indoor above ground transfer platform and the installation of a sharps consolidations and container washing system. Operations at the site involve the transfer of RMW between vehicles, within an enclosed facility, as a means to consolidate loads for long haul transport to permitted treatment and/or destruction facilities. Site activities are limited to the delivery, unloading, and reloading of RMW packaged in sealed cardboard boxes or reusable containers (except bulk containers), and the processing of reusable sharps containers. The facility will utilize 21 short haul vehicles to collect waste from generators in the NYC Tri state area, the mid Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut.

Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was not performed.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:
Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.
Coastal Management:
This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
