Cayuga County - The NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed acquisition of lands on Owasco Flats for wetlands and watershed protection will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves New York State which would acquire lands on the Owasco Flats either in fee or by purchasing easements.
The intent of this project is to protect, (by acquisition from willing sellers), wetlands and other habitats (along the Owasco Inlet). The area has significant habitats, flora and fauna and would provide opportunities for habitat and wildlife management, as well as new opportunities for public access for wildlife-related recreational activities. Acquiring these lands would also contribute to protection of the Owasco Lake watershed. Owasco Lake serves as the public water supply for more than 60% of Cayuga County.
