Wyoming County - The Town of Sheldon, Town Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed High Sheldon Wind Farm project. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sheldon Elementary School located in Varysburgh, N.Y. Public comments are requested and will be accepted by the contact person until August 22, 2006. Copies of the DEIS are available for review by the public at the following locations and also on the Internet Website: www.Highsheldonwind.com. The action involves the development of a wind-powered generating facility of up to 129 megawatts (MW) in The Town of Sheldon, New York that will include 86 wind turbines (WTG), each capable of generating 1.5 MW of electric power. The wind turbines used in the project will have rotors with a diameter between 253 and 271 feet, mounted on towers 262 feet tall. The maximum height of the WTG with the blade in the perfectly vertical position will be approximately 389 feet. In addition to the construction of the turbines, the project will involve a system of collection roads, an operations and maintenance building, an electrical substation and an electrical collection system consisting of buried transmission lines, pad-mounted transformers and as needed above-ground transmission lines and switchgear. The project is proposed to be constructed on privately-owned land where Sheldon Energy (Project Sponsor) has executed long-term lease or easement agreements with property owners in the Town of Sheldon.
