The NYS Department of Transportation
is undertaking a project which involves the
reconstruction and extension of a portion of NYS Route 85 (Slingerlands Bypass)
between Blessing and LaGrange Roads. A portion of the road would be widened from a
two lane undivided roadway into a four lane divided roadway. Other aspects of the
project will involve widening the Route 85 bridge over the Normanskill by adding two
lanes, construction of a sidewalk, and construction of a pedestrian/bicycle trail to a
proposed streamside access area for launching canoes near New Scotland Road. The
work will require filling of approximately 1.2 acres of federally regulated wetlands, and
approximately 647 linear feet of three intermittent tributaries to the Normanskill. Also,
approximately 132 cubic yards of rock will be placed in the Normanskill to provide scour
protection for the bridge abutments and 65 cubic yards of rock will be placed in the
Krum Kill for scour protection for an abutment the proposed pedestrian bridge. As
mitigation for the proposed impacts to the wetlands the DOT proposes to create a total of
