The applicant proposes to develop and operate a new surface mine involving extraction of consolidated materials.  The 17.1 life of mine area is part of a 73.8 acre parcel owned by Willi Kalvaitis.  The mining operation will involve blasting as well as on-site processing including crushing and screening.  The anticipated extraction rate is 30,000 cubic yards per year, with the mine operating for approximately 17 years.  Reclamation will be performed concurrently as mining progresses, with unconsolidated slopes being graded, smoothed and seeded, and rock faces scaled and terraced at 20 foot intervals.  The final reclamation objective is to re-establish existing pre-mining conditions, with the site ultimately being mostly wooded.

The applicant has proposed to develop a 12-lot subdivision on an 86.7-acre contiguous parcel containing a portion of regulated NYS DEC Freshwater Wetland M-8 (Class II). The proposal has been minimized to result in no wetland impact. For vehicular safety requirements, a small section of wetland adjacent area will be impacted by the establishment of the subdivision entrance. The site is located on Middle Grove Road between Hyspot and King Roads. Application materials are available for public comment at the NYS DEC Regional Sub-Office in Warrensburg.
