Jefferson County - The Town Board of the Town of Alexandria, as lead agency, has accepted a Final Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Creation Wellesley Island Water District and Water System Improvement Project. The action involves construction of a new, privately owned water supply facility to service a portion of Wellesley Island in the Town of Alexandria, NY. The Wellesley Island Water Corporation (WIWC) proposes to create a Water District and undertake a Water System Improvement Project to meet the long-term drinking and potable water needs of the residences and businesses of the WIWC District. WISC is under court order to build a filtration plan or locate a new source of water that will not require filtration, or at most require a small cartridge type filter. WIWC hired Bernier, Carr and Assoc. P.C. to investigate the best method of bringing the water system into compliance with current State and Federal Standards. The proposal developed as a result of the study would eliminate the unfiltered surface water source currently used and develop an overburden well field consisting of two wells, a water treatment plant, a 125,000 gallon elevated water storage tank, and 5,000 feet of 12" ductile iron pipe transmission main.
