The Department has made
a tentative determination to approve a State Pollutant
Discharge Elimination System permit under Article 17 of the Environmental
Conservation Law for the removal of iron & manganese from an existing
recharge/collection basin with subsequent discharge to groundwater. The proposed
activity is located at the Suffolk County Water Authority Astor Avenue Wellfield and
Pump Station, Astor Avenue, north of Rte 25, Saint James, Smithtown
This tentative determination
indicates that the discharge regulated under this statute is
considered to satisfy regulatory standards for permit issuance based on the information
available to the Department at this time. As a tentative determination, the Department
seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on
permit issuance. As such, this tentative determination does not signify Department
approval for or endorsement of the activity for which a permit is sought or for the overall
proposed project. Please refer to this application by the application number listed above
and SPDES number NY-026 7155. A copy of the application and draft permit are
available at the Region I Stony Brook office.

a tentative decision to approve this application
for modification of an existing
permit to incorporate a new treatment technology - PV-200 Granualar Activated Carbon System. The flow
parameters for Outfall 002 have
changed to 1,500 gpd daily average and 12,500 gpd daily maximum. Monitoring
requirements for Acetone and Arsenic have been added to the permit. The existing
facility specializes in vacuum depostion of metal oxides on glass substrates. The facility
is located on Blue Point Road, south of Point Street, in the Village of Holtsville, Town of
Brookhaven, Suffolk County, SCTM# 200-805-1-01.
