Project Description:
The applicant proposes to dredge approximately 900 cubic yards of sediment to improve boating activities within the Tonawanda Harbor of the Erie Canal. The dredging areas consist of: an area along the northern wall approximately 600 feet in length between the Delaware and Webster Street Bridges in the City of North Tonawanda (Gateway Park); and an area approximately120 feet in length along the southern wall between Ellicott Creek and the Webster Street Bridge in the City of Tonawanda. Dredging will be conducted from equipment operating from a barge. Turbidity curtains will be in place to prevent dispersion of sediment outside of the dredging areas. The dredged sediment will be disposed of either in the US Army Corps of Engineers Confined Disposal Facility in Lackawanna, or in an approved landfill.
State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:
Project is not subject to SEQR because it is a Type II action.
SEQR Lead Agency:
None Designated
State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:
The proposed activity is not subject to review in accordance with SHPA. The permit type is exempt or the activity is being reviewed in accordance with federal historic preservation regulations.
Coastal Management:
This project is located in a Coastal Management area and is subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
Opportunity for Public Comment:
Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Mar 24 2006.
