The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) administers the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) pursuant to State Environmental Conservation Law (ECL) 27-1400 et seq. The BCP was created to encourage the remediation and redevelopment of contaminated properties known as brownfields. The requestor indicated above has submitted a BCP application for investigation of the site indicated above.

NYSDEC will accept public comments concerning the application. A copy of the application and other appropriate documents (application package) is available in the site document repository located at the address indicated below.

Please note the application package includes the Draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan which describes the remedial activities to be conducted to investigate and determine the nature and extent of the contamination related to the site.

NYSDEC will review the application package and public comments received and then make a determination on the eligibility of the application.

Project Location: East of Reit Road and south of Bliven Hill Road in the towns of Otselic and Smyrna

Project Description: The action involves an herbicide application to reduce ferns, fringed bindweed and undesirable low valued tree species (beech, hop-hornbeam and striped maple) to allow the natural regeneration of desired species such as sugar maple, black cherry, white ash and red maple. The action is to take place on 53 acres, presently occupied by stands of sugar maple, black cherry, white ash and red maple. Impact on public health is minimal. Personnel will be equipped with safety equipment. Following label instructions for the application will minimize risk.


Oswego County - The County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Oswego School District Public Library Project will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the reconstruction and renovation of the existing Oswego School District Public Library building and the construction of an approximately 10,000 square foot addition thereto. The project is located at 120 East Second Street in Oswego, New York.

Tompkins County - The Town of Lansing, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Town of Lansing Consolidated Water District, Extension #1 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves Brief Project Description: The action involves...... The establishment of CWD, Extension #1 will facilitate the design and installation of a Town water main to serve a population of approximately 154 persons along Algerine and Lansing Station Roads. Roughly 11,500 feet of 8-inch water main; together with valves, fire hydrants and service connections will be constructed over a period of 18 months. An above-grade pressure reducing station will also be constructed in the vicinity of Ludlow Road and Algerine Road. The project is located on Algerine and Lansing Station Road, Town of Lansing, Tompkins County.
