Mohawk Valley Bedding Co.,
to be located at the Power Pallet facility on State Highway
30 in the Town of Amsterdam, Montgomery County, has proposed to conduct a 180 day
research and development project which will require a Solid Waste Management Facility
permit. The project will involve the acceptance of up to 200 tons per day of paper mill
sludge and the blending of this material with agricultural lime and wood chips from the
Power Pallet operations to produce animal bedding for use by local dairy and horse farms.
The applicant had previously proposed this operation to be conducted at the Cytech
Hardwoods facility, but that application has been withdrawn.

The Department has recieved a complete application for and has proposed a
Draft SPDES permit for a 100,000 gpd discharge from a proposed wastewater
treatment plant to serve the Village of Central Bridge. Effluent limitations were
taken from a Waste Assimilative Capacity analysis performed by the Division of
Water. Intermittent stream effluent limits have been applied. The discharge will
be directed to the Cobleskill Creek (H-240-82-63) a class C steam.
The proposed treatment includes manually cleaned bar screen
prior to a
sequencing batch reactor (SBR) activated sludge process. SBR decant goes to
an equalization tank then pumped to an ultraviolet light unit for disinfection.
