The Town of Johnstown proposed to establish a new 20-acre sand and gravel mine located within a +/- 50-acre parcel owned by the Town. The mine will be operated as a traditional surface extraction and processing by screen. Application materials are available for public review and comment at the NYS DEC Regional Sub-Office.

The applicant has proposed to modify his current Mined Land Reclamation permit for T & L’s Sand and Gravel mine to add 23.5 acres to the current 4.5-acre life-of-mine (LOM) area, to total 28 acres. The project site is situated on a contiguous +/- 43-acre parcel which is located on the north side of Clarks Mills Road, approximately 0.5 miles west from its County Route 77 intersection. The mine will continue to operate as a traditional surface extraction of sand and gravel by means of mechanical excavating and processing by portable screen, standard for this type of mining operation. This modification would allow for the commencement of extraction into the newly proposed LOM acreage to the south of the current affected area, in which sand and gravel will be mined in one-acre per year phases. No other changes to any operational aspect of the mine are proposed. Application materials are available for public review and comment at the NYS DEC Warrensburg Sub-Office.
