Permit(s) Applied for: Article 15 Title 15 Water Supply
Project is Located: Wallkill, Orange County
Project Description:
The City of Middletown has as applied for a Water Supply permit (WSA# 10,755) to develop a new well, known as the Shawangunk Reservoir Well,  to be pumped at a rate of 80 gallons per minute (gpm), to supplement the City's existing reservoir system during peak summer demands.  The 500 foot deep bedrock well has a steel casing from just above ground level down 80 feet and is grouted into bedrock, to prevent surface water from draining into the well.  The City submitted the results of a 72-hour pumptest demonstrating that the well can safely produce 80 gpm.  During the pumptest, the City also tested the discharge water for changes in turbidity and water temperature, and based on the results determined that there was no measurable inflow of reservoir water or other surface water into the aquifer.
The well is located immediately adjacent to the northwest shore of the City's Shawangunk Lake Reservoir about 600 feet from the dam forming the City's Highland Lake Reservoir in the Town of Wallkill, Orange County, NY.
