Orange County - The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Expansion of Callahan and Nannini Shale Mine will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a 19.2 acre expansion of an existing mine (from 47.3 acres to 66.5 on a total site of 88 acres). This modification will allow extraction of additional mineral deposits (shale, limestone and gneiss), and also requests "deepening" of the final finished grade of portions of the existing mine to increase reserves. The project is located northwest of Clove Road, in the Town of Blooming Grove, Orange County.
