Project Location: Town of Hunter in Greene County and Towns of Saugerties and Woodstock in Ulster County

Project Description: The action involves a public meeting on the amendment of the unit management plan for the Indian Head–Plateau Mountain Wilderness Area. The unit management plan mentions the addition of approximately 611 acres of land to the wilderness. Proposed management actions include relocation of the Long Path from Route 214 to a new trail over Plateau Mountain and the designation of the portion of the Overlook Turnpike from privately owned land to it’s junction with the Devil’s Path as a hiking trail.

A public meeting on the amendment will be held on Friday, September 9th 2005 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Town of Hunter offices at 5748 State Route 23A, just east of the Village of Tannersville. Public comments will be accepted by the contact person until October 10, 2005.


Positive Declaration And Public Scoping

Westchester County – The Town of Cortlandt Planning Board, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Preliminary Plat Approval by Kirquel Development, Ltd., may have a significant adverse impact on the environment and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement must be prepared. A public scoping session will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. at the Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor, New York. The action involves an application (PB 13–05) submitted by Kirquel Development, Ltd., for Preliminary Plat Approval pursuant to Sections 276 & 277 of the New York State Town Law and pursuant to Chapter 265 (Subdivision of Land) of the Town of Cortlandt Code. This application also includes a request for Permits pursuant to Chapter 259 (Steep Slopes), Chapter 179 (Wetlands) and Chapter 283 (Tree Removal) of the Town of Cortlandt Code. The subject application is for a proposed conventional single family residential subdivision with 27 lots, proposed roads, utilities and other proposed related site improvements on 52.78 acres. The subject property of 52.78 acres is located west side of Lexington Avenue and at the south end of Mill Court and is designated on the Town of Cortlandt Tax Maps as Section 13.18, Block 2, Lot 2.

Notice Of Acceptance Of Draft EIS And Public Hearing

Orange County – The Town of Monroe Planning Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Forest Edge Subdivision. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. at the Town of Monroe Senior Center, Mine Road, Monroe, New York. The close of the comment period will be ten days after the close of the hearing. The action involves a request for subdivision approval and all other necessary land use approvals for a 51–lot subdivision on a 25.31–acre parcel in the URM zoning district. The site is proposed to be served by public sewer service and individual wells. The site is the former Jehovah’s Witness Hall property and is currently developed with a meeting hall and paved parking and circulation areas, among other things. This structure is proposed to be demolished as part of the action.

The site contains nearly 3 acres of federal jurisdictional wetland that has been flagged in the field and was the subject of a Jurisdictional Determination. The plan proposes a network of private roads leading to Mountain Road (CR 44) and Forest Road. The project is located at Forest and Mountain Roads (CR 44); adjoins Village of Kiryas Joel boundary.
