The applicant proposes to
reconstruct 32' of bulkhead within 18 inches of the existing
bulkhead and reconstruct 19.5' of bulkhead within 1' to 6' of the existing bulkhead. The
applicant also proposes to dredge an irregular shape area immediately seaward of the
bulkhead to a depth of -4 feet below mean low water. Sixteen cubic yards of dredge
material will be placed between the bulkheads as backfill, with 134 cubic yards of dredge
material to be disposed of at an approved upland site. Placement of fill behind the 19.5'
section of bulkhead, which will be located seaward of apparent high water, will result in
the permanent loss of approximately 59 square feet of tidal wetlands known as littoral
zone (SM/LZ). The project is located at 135 South Ferry Road, Shelter Island Terminal,
Town of Shelter Island, Suffolk County, SCTM# 0700-27-1-2.
