one-time treatment to 10 acres of Horseshoe Lake with the
aquatic herbicide Reward. The application is intended to control curly-leaf pond weeds,
considered nuisance, invasive aquatic plant species. The herbicide will be applied as a
surface application by power sprayer at a rate not to exceed 1 gallon per surface/acre. A
maximum of 10 gallons will be allowed. The treatment is also being done in accordance
with a current, valid Freshwater Wetlands permit, issued by the Department to the
applicant, for water level control at the Horseshoe Lake dam during the herbicide
application. A Water Level Management Plan has been reviewed and approved. The
project site is Horseshoe Lake, south of Horseshoe Lake Rd., approximately 0.4 mi.east
of the Rt. 19B intersection.

The applicant proposes a renewal and modification
of the McCarthy sand and gravel mine on the
William McCarthy property. The modification will add approximately 12.3 acres of new gravel
reserves to the existing 9.7acre life-of-mine area. Mining in the expansion area will continue
current operations as a traditional surface extraction of the gravelly silt loams which are the
principal soils types on the site. Processing will be by portable crushing and screening equipment.
No changes to the rate of mining, truck traffic volumes or hours of operation are proposed.
Reclamation will restore the site to graded, re-vegetated open land.
The mine site is off McCarthy Road approximately
1.5 miles SE of the McCarthy Rd. /
Addison/Erwin town line.
