ENB Region 3 Completed Applications 05/25/2005

The applicant proposes to treat no more than 10 acres of Ellis pond with the aquatic herbicides Glypro (active ingredient: glyphosate) and Aquathol-K (active ingredient: dipotassium salt of endothall) for the control of water lilies (Nymphaea sp. and Nuphar sp.), pondweeds (Potamogeton spp.), naiads (Naiad spp.) and Eurasian water-milfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum).  Ellis pond is a 52-acre lake and the treatment area is generally located along 1,600 linear feet of shoreline adjacent to Camp Ramah, which is located near Ramah and St. George Roads.  Portions of Ellis Pond are also State-designated Freshwater Wetland Nos. DP-20 and DP-24.  No direct treatment of the wetlands is proposed, although a pending application (DEC No. 3-1326-00008/00003) for the incidental introduction of aquatic herbicides within the wetland and 100-foot adjacent areas.

       The Town of LaGrange has formed the Harvest Ridge Water District and has applied to take an average of up to 20,900 gallons per day from its existing Town Center Water Improvement Area wells, and serve the water to the proposed 54-lot Harvest Ridge Subdivision and one lot on Creamer Road.   The water would come from the five (5) wells currently approved for service to the Town's Improvement Area.  The District will also install approximately 580 linear feet of eight (8) inch diameter pipe along Noxon Road and inside the proposed subdivision to connect the wells with the new Water District.  

       The Harvest Ridge Water District is located off Noxon Road, just west of the Taconic State Parkway in Town of LaGrange, Dutchess County , NY.  

The applicant proposes to treat two swimming areas, totalling approximately 4.5 acres, in Green Mountain Lake with the aquatic herbicide Aquathol-K (active ingredient: dipotassium salt of endothall) and the algaecide copper sulfate for the control of curly leaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus),  bass weed (P. amplifolius),  milfoil (Myriophyllum spp.), and filamentous algae.  Green Mountain Lake is a 45-acre lake located generally north of Lakeside Drive and west of Dutchess County Route 20 (Dover Road).  This proposal is consistent with the Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement on Aquatic Vegetation Control Program of the Department of Environmental Conservation and its Findings.

Full lake treatment to control curlyleaf pondweed

The applicant proposes to treat 2 ponds totalling 2.32 acres with the following aquatic herbicides: Cutrine Plus (9% copper as elemental) for control of algal growth; and, REWARD (37.3% Diquat dibromide) for control of elodea.  The ponds are identified as "Woods Bottom Ponds" and are located within the condominium complex known as The Woods at Rhinebeck, Town of Rinebeck, Dutchess County.

The applicant proposes to install a septic tank, pump chamber and part of a pressure main within the Adjacent Area of Freshwater Wetland VB-26 to serve a renovated studio apartment.  The laterals for the wastewater discharge (220 gpd) will be located outside of the State regulated Adjacent Area (approximately 120 feet from the wetland boundary). The existing dwellings are located at 46 Shaugnessy Road.

The applicant proposes to treat approximately 6 acres of a 10.5 acre pond with the aquatic herbicide Aquathol-K (active ingredient: dipotassium salt of endothall) and the algaecide copper sulfate. In addition four smaller golf cours ponds totalling approximately 0.86 acres will be treated with the aquatic herbicide Sonar AS (active ingredient: fluridone) and the algaecide copper sulfat.  The ponds are located on the Town of Wallkill Golf Club located on Sands Road.  The proposed treatments are for the control of nuisance aquatic vegetation (Ceratophyllum spp.,  Potamogeton natans, Lemna sp., Najas sp.) and filamentous algae.  Portions of the ponds are also mapped as State-designated Freshwater Wetland No. WU-16 and a valid Article 24, Freshwater Wetland permit is in effect for the proposed treatments (DEC No. 3-3352-00217/00001).  The proposal is consistent with the Department's Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement for the Use of Fluridone and its Statement of Findings.

Partial treatment of lake with Aquathol K  pesticide for m. humile

The applicant proposes to treat approximately 118 acres of Congers Lake with the aquatic herbicide Sonar AS (active ingredient: fluridone) and the algaecide copper sulfate for the control of coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) and algae.  Congers lake is a 118-acre lake located generally south of Lake Road and west of NYS Route 303.   This proposal is consistent with the Department's Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement for the Use of Fluridone and Glyphosate and its Statement of Findings.

The applicant proposes to treat a 4-acre private pond with the algaecide Cutrine Plus (active ingredient: elmental copper) for the control of nuisance algae.  The pond is a portion of State-designated Freshwater Wetland D-3 (Class I), and is located on the east side of Honey Hollow Road, approximately 0.15 mile (800 feet) north of the intersection with NYS Route 137.  A total of three treatments are proposed throughout the summer.

The applicant proposes to treat a private, 0.5 acre pond with the aquatic herbicide Avast (active ingredient: fluridone) for the control of nuisance duckweed.  The pond is located on the south side of Bender Way, just east of the southern intersection with Trinity Pass. The project is consistent with the Department's Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement for the use of Fluridone and the subsequent Findings Statement.
