Project Description: Regulated wetland activity: Proposed continuation of suction harvesting of non-native Eurasian Watermilfoil from both East and West Caroga Lakes. Harvesting would occur weekdays during the summers over the next five years (2005-2009). Areas to be harvested will be determined by annual surveys.

Project Title: Town of Westport Municipal Water Supply Improvement Project

Location: NYS Route 22 and Mountain Spring Rd.

Project Description: The action involves major public utility uses to upgrade the Westport municipal water supply to protect the springs that are the water source, construct a new water treatment plant, a new 75,000 gallon water storage tank and replace a gate valve, off Mountain Spring Rd. Also to construct a new 300,000 gallon water storage tank, 50 feet in diameter and 39 feet tall, with accessway and relocated chlorination treatment building and solar panels (currently sited at Mountain Spring Rd. facility) in Agency-permitted Westport Development Park off NYS Route 22. The Westport Development Park permit will be amended to include the subdivision of Lot 3 for the construction and operation of the water storage tank.


Negative Declaration

Essex County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Adoption and Implementation of the Split Rock Mountain Wild Forest Unit Management Plan (UMP) will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the adoption of a comprehensive unit management plan addressing the use of and preservation of public lands. Actions include boundary line marking; new trail construction; including trails for hiking and all terrain bicycle use; trail upgrades and relocations; parking lot and trail head construction; parking lot improvements; construction of an accessible wildlife viewing trail and platform for persons with disabilities; improvement of facilities; search and rescue operations; maintenance of existing facilities; including, blowdown removal; erosion control; litter removal; and sign replacement; public information and education and public use controls. The project is located in the Adirondack Forest Preserve, Towns of Essex and Westport.

Hamilton County - The Town of Long Lake, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Town of Long Lake Water District No.2 Improvements will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the development of a new groundwater source to augment the existing surface water supply, construction of a new water storage tank, installation of new transmission and distribution mains, and replacement of several existing pump stations throughout the system.

Notice Of Acceptance Of Draft EIS And Public Hearing

Hamilton and Fulton Counties - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Shaker Mountain Wild Forest and Northville Boat Launch. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on April 14, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at the Caroga Town Hall in Caroga Lake, NY. Comments will be accepted by the contact person until April 29th 2005. The action involves major proposed management actions which include:

The Shaker Mountain Wild Forest is located east of NYS Route 10 and Ferris Lake Wild Forest, south of Silver Lake Wilderness, west of the Great Sacandaga Lake and north of the Adirondack Park "blue line" boundary in the Towns of Northhampton, Mayfield, Bleecker, Caroga and Benson.
