The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (Department) administers the Brownfield Cleanup Program. The Brownfield Cleanup Program is designed to encourage the remediation of contaminated properties known as brownfields for reuse and redevelopment. The Applicant identified above has submitted an application to participate in the Brownfield Cleanup Program. The application was determined to be complete by the Department and is currently under review for eligibility. The property described in the application is identified by the Site Name and Site Number identified above and is located at the address above. The application proposes that the Applicant will conduct investigation and/or remedial activities at the site, to allow for residential and commercial use of the site.

The Department will accept public comments concerning the application, inclusive of attachments, as well as the Draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan, for thirty days from March 2, 2005 through April 1, 2005. After review of the application and any public comments received, the Department will determine whether to accept the Applicantís request to participate in the Brownfield Cleanup Program. If the Department accepts the Applicantís request to participate, it will execute a Brownfield Cleanup Agreement (BCA) with the Applicant. By executing a BCA, the Applicant would commit to undertake the project under the Departmentís oversight. The Department will require the Applicant to inform and involve the public during this process. The documents in the repository have not been reviewed by Department staff prior to their release for public comment. The Department, in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health, will review these documents during the public comment period.

Notice Of Acceptance Of Draft EIS And Public Hearing

New York City (Kings) County - The New York City School Construction Authority, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Sunset Park High School Facility. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on March 14, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at P.S. 24, located at 427 38th Street, Brooklyn, NY. Public comment period ends March 25, 2005. The action involves the site selection, acquisition, acceptance of construction funding and construction of a new public high school facility serving approximately 1,640 students in the ninth through twelfth grades in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. The proposed new school facility would be located on the block bounded by 34th Street to the north, 4th Avenue to the east, 35th Street to the south, and 3rd Avenue to the west. The proposed site is located on the eastern portion of Block 688 on Lots 26 & 44, and adjoins the John D'Emic Park. The proposed project would involve demolition of the existing buildings on the site, and construction of a new 5-story school building. The project is located at 932 4th Avenue and 156/170 34th Street, Brooklyn, New York.
