The applicant proposes to
add a total of 9.6 acres to this sand and gravel mine, currently
approved for 17.1 acres. Of the addition, 6.2 acres are adjacent to the northeast corner of
the current mine, mostly on property of Karl and Sally Lawson. Excavation below the
ground water table is proposed on the Lawson property, creating a pond of approximately
4 acres, up to 15 feet deep and on the applicant's property, creating a second 1.4 acre pond
up to 12 feet deep. The second pond is south of the existing mine in a previously mined
area (circa 1950). The reclamation objective for the remainder of the expansion is
meadow. Topsoil from the 4 acre pond site is proposed to be sold as mine product.
