Project Description:
The applicant proposes to add 59 acres to the existing 144.1 acre "Borer Deposit" sand and gravel mine(also know as Freedom Sand and Gravel Plant). The estimated life of the expansion area is 10 to 15 years and the reclamation objective is to return the mined area to a condition suitable for farming, which is its current use. The applicant's Borer Deposit mine is located on the north side of NYS Route 98, east of the hamlet of Sandusky. The proposed 59 acre mine addition is within 80 acres of land owned by Gerald and Joan Hughes, north of and contiguous with the current north mine boundary.
State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:
Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.
SEQR Lead Agency:
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:
A Structural-Archaeological Assessment Form has been completed. The proposed activity will not impact on registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures.
Coastal Management:
This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
Opportunity for Public Comment:
Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Feb 25 2005.
