Chenango County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (Department), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Berry Hill - Communications Tower Installation will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves installation of a 140 foot, free–standing, communications tower on its Berry Hill Lookout Tower property. The N.Y. State Police (NYSP) will share funding and/or other resources for the project. Installation of the tower will address worker safety concerns and allow the participating agencies to upgrade their communications systems to better deliver public safety services to the public. The BOCES district also uses the tower for communications with their school buses.
All antennas and appurtenances will be removed from the existing lookout tower, allowing public access to the tower‘s observation platform for scenic viewing. Opening the lookout tower for public use and recreation will satisfy one objective outlined in DEC‘s McDonough Unit Management Plan (August 1999). The project is located at Berry Hill Fire Tower, Tower Road (off County Route 10), McDonough Township, Chenango County
