Project Description:
The applicant proposes to resume mining of sand and gravel at a previously permitted site, north of the former, and now closed, town landfill.  Under the new permit, the life of mine area will increase from 3 acres (which includes 2.5 previously disturbed acres) to a total of 4.9 acres.  This is part of an 82 acre parcel of land owned by Valerie Helms, located approximately 2,000 ft northeast of the intersection of Rock Road and Rt 192, in the Town of Brighton.  Mining activities will remove approximately 10,000 cubic yards of material per year for 5 years, with a potential for a spike in the rate of extraction to 30,000 cubic yards during the Route 86 road construction project.  Operations will occur April through November, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and occasionally on Saturdays between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm.  A rock crusher will be used occasionally inside the pit.  Trucks will use the existing gravel road.  Final reclamation will include grading and seeding to establish grass cover and allow woody vegetation to grow.  A permit is also required from the Adirondack Park Agency, application # 2004-63.
