Availability of Voluntary Cleanup Project Work Plan for Comment

Cornell Agriculture & Food Technology Park Corporation (#V00643-8)

Project Location: Region 8, Ontario County, City of Geneva, Pre-Emption Road (NYS Agricultural Experiment Station)

Brief Project Description: A technology park for agricultural and food research is proposed on the site of a 72-acre research orchard at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva. Use of the site as an orchard has resulted in pesticide contamination (e.g., elevated levels of arsenic, mercury, and organic pesticides such as DDT and DDD) in site surface soils. The proposed remedy involves addressing contaminated soils above site-specific action levels through on-site management. The proposed soil management plan specifies encapsulation and/or coverage of contaminated soils with acceptable cover material along with restrictions on future disturbance of these soils and on future site use (commercial use only). At full site development, the project is expected to generate several hundred jobs.

Document Repositories: Public participation in the process is encouraged. The cleanup plan (Remedial Action Work Plan) for this site is available at the Geneva Library and the DEC Avon office. Comments will be accepted until April 5, 2004.
